Missouri's deadline for voter registration is Wednesday.
KANSAS City, Mo. — The number of people registering to vote in Missouri is surging as the general ballot approaches.
Wednesday at five p.m. is the deadline to annals in society to vote on Nov. iii.
Elections leaders say there are several reasons to register across this beingness the kickoff time voting.
Across the Kansas City surface area, elections offices have seen thousands of people register since July. 41 Activeness News obtained the number of registered voters for jurisdictions effectually Kansas City from the Missouri Secretary of State.
That data shows a spike in the number of new registrations in September for Platte, Dirt, Jackson counties and the portion of Kansas City within Jackson County.
Jackson Canton (excluding Kansas City) had roughly four,500 new registrations in September, compared to 2,500 in August.
The part of Kansas City located in Jackson Canton had nearly 7,000 people register to vote in September. About 2,000 registered in August.
Clay County saw about 5,000 new registrations in September, and 1,000 in August. The information shows a like jump in Platte County where two,500 people registered in September, compared to 800 in Baronial.
A spokesperson from the Secretary of State'due south office said it's typical to see a crash-land in the number of new voter registrations ahead of a presidential election. Local elections leaders say some of the numbers include people who have always been registered inside their jurisdiction, but moved to a new address or changed their name.
"It's democracy, you're supposed to vote. People died to vote, sacrificed a lot but to vote," explained Rick Richards, a Kansas City homo who voted early on.
Steve Kee is a member of a fraternity that hosted roughly 10 voter registration drives leading upward to Wednesday'due south deadline. He said information technology's important to vote.
